Hemroids During Pregnancy
Hemroids can develop during pregnancy – often due to the radical change in hormones and/or constipation that often occurs with a change in vitamins and general diet. Sometimes they are due to the weight of the uterus and baby causing pressure. Lots of sitting or standing contributes to the development of 'roids'. Frequent rests in the prone position are encouraged.
Although these hemorrhoidal varicose veins of the rectum are extremely unpleasant and potentially serious, the good news is that they are usually a temporary condition. Often the hemroid will disappear after delivery.
Ways to prevent getting a hemroid include drinking plenty of water, never “putting off” the call of nature – when you have to go, GO - not straining to make a bowel movement - eating plenty of fibrous foods to soften the stools and prevent constipation, and keeping the anal area clean.
If you do experience a hemroid, there are a variety of ointments and suppositories made especially to alleviate the symptoms but these are not cures of the causes. Also warm baths, special cushions and loose-fitting clothing offer some comfort but it will take some medicaion in most cases to eliminate the cause (swelling).
Postpartum - Hemroids After Pregnancy
If you didn't have a hemroidal condition during pregnancy but they develop after delivery, it may be due to the strain of labor. Common causes amoungst suffers are heavy lifting, poor posture, straining during bowel movements - all related to excessive strain of the rectum. Treatment is no different - ointments and anti-itch creams for itching and burning and herbal remedies which provide relief of inflammation and swelling.
