To find people in the Philippines, it may be helpful to know that most Filipinos are descendants of Indonesia and Malaysia. Their ancestors came to the islands over many years, displacing the Aboriginese. The Chinese comprise the largest ethnic minority. They have been an important contributor to commerce for centuries. Many Philippinos have Spanish or American blood due to the many years of the pesence of Spain and America during the 1800-1900's. There is also a mix of Arabic and Indian ancestory. About ninety percent of the population is Christian because of the four hundred years of Spanish and American occupation.
