Software Programs for Top Search Engine Ranking

Getting a site to rank highly in Search-Engine Results Pages (SERPs) for a keyword phrase can be relatively easy if there is little competition for the targeted keywords. On the other hand, getting a high ranking for a very competitive term like 'shopping' is impossible. In between easy and impossible lies a lot of hard work to achieve a high rank for other keywords and keyword-phrases. It is imperative that routine and repetitive tasks be automated so that time is spent productively. The software listed here saves time and maximizes efficiency.

Roboform - http://www.roboform.com

Promoting a website requires submitting (repetitive) information about the site to several other websites (like login usernames and passwords, search engines, directories, link-exchange partners, classified ads, etc). Each such site provides a 'submission form' with 'fields' for entering specific informatio. Roboform stores that information and with the press of a button, auto-fills each field on the submission form, saving time by eliminating copy/paste and avoiding mistakes by always remembering the correct information. One-click links are available which open a log-in page, enter the username and password and access the destination page.

Notetab - http://www.notetab.com/ntl.php (free)

Notetab is a 'text editor' like Notepad or Wordpad but with added features which are very useful for automating actions and analyzing web-page text.

  • Clipbook - Save any text or commands and recall them instantly while working in Notetab.
  • Paste Board - Anything copied to the clipboard will be added to the 'Paste Board' file. i>Strip HTML - When viewing HTML code, one click removes all html from a page so only text remains.
  • Text Statistics - When viewing a page of text, click once to see how many characters and words are on the page. Click again to see each word's 'frequency' (how many times it appears) and it's 'weight' (what % the word is of the total words).
  • Sort Text - Each line of text can be sorted alphabetically and duplicates can be removed.
Example: You want a list of the 100 URLs listed on Google's search-results page (SERP). Copy/paste would take forever. While viewing the Google page, press control+A to select all text then control+C to copy all text to the 'paste-board page'. Open the paste-board page and click the 'A-Z Sort Button'. The URL lines (starting with 'www.') will be grouped together and arranged alphabetically.

Firefox Browser - (free) http://en.www.mozilla.com/en/firefox/

The Firefox web browser is gaining in popularity because it's a better browser than Internet Explorer. Firefox has many features that can make Internet work more simplified. Here are just a few:

  • Open links and mailto's with external applications.
  • Perform quicksearches for the selected text.
  • Record what you do, store it and play it back on demand.
  • Save and restore tabbed browsing sessions called 'wads'.
  • See the tags on a page without viewing the source code.
  • See what keywords are strong on visited web page.
  • Use your Gmail Space (4.1 GB) for file storage.

Thunderbird Email Client - http://en.www.mozilla.com/en/thunderbird/ (free)

Firefox and Thunderbird are provided by the Mozilla Open Source (free) community.

When communicating on the Internet, it best to make a good impression which means having your own email address and not a free address at msn.com, yahoo.com or gmail.com.

When representing us you should have an email address like yourname@4www.us and that will require having an email client like Thunderbird. If you've fought with Microsoft Mail (old Outlook Express) or Pocomail and maybe some others, you'll appreciate Thunderbird simply because it's easy to use and it's solid.

Google StarOffice (free) - http://pack.google.com/intl/en/pack_installer.html?hl=en&gl=us

A good bit of communication today is done through MS Word documents (.doc) and MS Excel spreadsheets (.xls). If you don't have MS Office, use Sun's StarOffice.

StarOffice 8 is an office suite that includes a word processor and a spreadsheet tool as well as other programs. Itsupports most Microsoft Office formats (.xls for spreadsheets, .doc for documents) and it can also export documents as PDF. The StarOffice installer is huge (140 MB) so download with a fast Internet connection.

Acrobat Reader (free) - www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

PDF (Portable Document Files) have become a popular means of communication, particularly via email and on the Inet. Most likely your computer already has Acrobat Reader installed. (Check Start, Programs and look for Acrobat Reader.) Download and install it, or check for updates.
